what is a conscious business?

A conscious business is a business that is aware of the impact of its actions or inactions, both in the short-term and long term, and designs its business practices to consciously affect human beings, animals and the environment in a beneficial way. A conscious business evolves, as does the methods that a business can, and chooses to be of benefit to the world and to function with awareness. Conscious business also refers to a movement towards “value’s based” economic value, where “value’s” represent social and environmental concerns globally as well as locally.

At Dianovo being a conscious business means working on four planes; for the planet, for local and global community, for your employees, and for your profit.

For the planet: A conscious business will seek to work in harmony with the environment. It will minimize its impact on the environment, and replenish the environment where it is able.

Some of these efforts include:

  • Robust Recycling programs
  • Building “Green” or “Zero-impact” workplace facilities
  • Using solar or wind energy in the workplace
  • Purchasing materials from organic or sustainable sources
  • Purchasing renewable and sustainable materials
  • Working with environmentally conscious distributors
  • Urging manufacturers and distributors to adopt better environmental practices
  • Adopting sustainable product packaging

For the local and global community: A conscious business seeks to benefit all stakeholders including manufacturers, affected communities, and humanity at large. Some of these efforts include:

  • Use of Fair Trade materials for manufacture or sale
  • Assistance to communities who supply raw materials
  • Assistance to communities who manufacture materials
  • Local community outreach programs
  • Research the companies and sources you choose to work with

For your employees and stake holders: A conscious business seeks to benefit both the external livelihood as well as the internal lives of its shareholders and employees.

  • The forming of wellness affirming workplace cultures
  • Improved employee benefit programs
  • Improved employee training programs

For your own profit and success: A conscious business will balance conscious business practices with its own business profit. It will work to use its practices to promote its own business values and thus create loyal and lasting customers. Ways to do this include:

  • Increased communication of business practices and ideals.
  • Increased accessibility to the people behind the business front
  • Increased PR and promotions
  • Increased cost effect practices and green marketing techniques.
